Wow, maybe this way the internet sometime create a new language ;-)

We're calling it 'the Babel Academy' :-)

So I would like to see what happens if German people replied to English
emails in German, instead of feeling they must reply in English if the
original is English (basically, the way I sometimes write on the German
list). But it seems Germans feel this would be impolite? Can you think of
some way to carry out this experiment?

OK, so when there aren't many people who understand a language at all the
ones who do have to help out a bit. Provide a bit of context in their replies,
and so on. Maybe it isn't symmetrical between English-German now, but with
time people might learn more. Yesterday (in the real world) Chris said he
didn't understand a word of German - I wonder if he could join in this
thread?

Graham
