[ox-en] Motivation in Peer Production

Hi there,

I have to confess that, while I like your theoretical discussions, I
am still waiting for practical conclusions from it. Is that part less
interesting to you guys?

And to open some discussion here is a thought - if we participate in
peer production mostly just for fun, for the thrill of it, it is even
sometimes called the adventure economy (the experience economy?) then
if we want to know how to lead peer production efforts we can get some
insight from looking at research on other 'for fun' activities.

Like gaming.

Competence, autonomy, and relatedness - these are the three core
motivations identified in gaming by
http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/1738/rethinking_carrots_a_new_method_.php.
Does it sound like a plausible hypothesis that the same motivations
are at the core of Open Source participation?

Cheers,
